I Corinthians 9:1-18


  1. Paul argues intellectually for his rights (1-12a)


  1. He is qualified to be an apostle (1-2)


  1. He defends his rights to the benefits that come with

being an apostle (3-6)


  1. Paul builds an argument for financial support (7-11)


  1. He even uses the argument of comparison (12a)


  1. He also uses the argument from the lesser to the

greater (12a)


  1. Paul argues practically for giving up rights (12b)


  1. Paul provides a principle for all of us (12-18)


  1. The Gospel is a reason to give up your rights (12)


  1. There is no question that we have rights (13-14)


  1. But, that does not mean we exercise our rights (15)


  1. We gladly give up our preferences and rights in order

to proclaim the Gospel (15)


  1. The Gospel should be the compelling motivation of

our lives (16)


  1. In order to see this goal come to fruition, we must gladly

offer the Gospel with no strings attached (17-18)
